We pay tribute to all of the stars who've sadly lost their life this year

We are always left feeling emotional when news of a star passing breaks.

In 2015, there have been a number of celebrity deaths from chart-topping pop icons to award-winning film directors and highly successful TV presenters.

To pay a tribute to the VIPs who are no longer with us, we document their greatest achievements throughout their lives.

The first famous face we bid goodbye to is Australian actor Rod Taylor, who died on 7 January.

We can safely say that Rod – who was just days away from celebrating his 85th birthday – enjoyed a glittering career in the spotlight, with roles in Alfred Hitchcock’s film The Birds and Sunday In New York.

A heart attack was the cause of Rod’s death.

Tragically, he’s not the only star of the silver screen that we wish to celebrate the life of.

Frenchman Louis Jourdan, Star Trek’s Leonard Nimoy and Sir Christopher Lee are all included in our celebrity deaths round-up too.

Some of those who’ve created magic behind the camera have also left us. Those we name include Ocean’s Eleven director Jerry Weintraub and Titanic score composer James Horner.

James was killed on 22 June after crashing his single-engine plane in the States.

A handful of the our most celebrated authors are also sadly now gone.

Fantasy writer Terry Pratchett lost his life on 12 March, eight years after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Ruth Rendell – famous for penning stories about Inspector Wexford – passed on 2 May at the age of 85.

And a statement revealing Jackie Collins’ death shocked the world on 19 September.

We were of course at real loss for words when Cilla Black became one of 2015’s celebrity deaths on 1 August.

Although she started out as a singer, releasing singles such as Anyone Who Had A Heart and You’re My World, Cilla was widely recognised as a talented TV host.

Cilla died from natural causes at her holiday home in Marbella.
