Simply Christmas

Come along to our new Make And Take Workshops at the Simply Christmas show, at ExCeL in London, where you’ll find all the ideas and buys you need to create your perfect festivities.

There will be two Woman’s Weekly Make And Take sessions a day, each costing £15, which includes free entry to the Simply Christmas, Hobbycrafts and Art Materials Live shows.

Running our workshops will be WW ’s Knitting Assistant Freddie, Home Editor Emily and Craft Assistant Esme, along with Docrafts’ craft expert Sheila Halliwell and knitting expert Natalie Warner.

Felted Crochet Decoration

Friday, Saturday and Sunday Morning: 10.45am – 1pm
Easy Knitted Christmas Decorations: Learn a variety of shaping techniques and experiment with sparkly yarns to shimmer on your tree over the holiday season.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday Afternoon: 2 – 4.15pm
Felted Crochet Christmas Decorations: Improve your existing crochet skills to make pretty motif designs, using Rowan Fine Tweed Yarn. You’ll learn how to crochet in the round, do decorative stitches, change colours, and felting and embellishment techniques.

Friday and Saturday Morning: 10.45am – 1pm
Make Christmas cards: Decorate them with trimmings and hand-stitch on felt shapes. Finish off with buttons and jingle bells.
Present-wrapping Masterclass.
Die-cut, stamp and felt gift tags with festive motifs.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon: 2 – 4.15pm
Create a felt Gingerbread Man Garland: Die-cut shapes from the Christmas Medley Die-cutting Set and embellish with ribbon, bows and papers. Make a pretty gift bag/box.

Sunday Morning: 10.45am – 1pm
Make Christmas cards using techniques such as découpage, stamping and die-cutting. Make your own crackers, personalising with gifts and jokes.

Here’s a little about our experts…

Emily Emily Dawe Home Editor, Woman's WeeklyDawe is the Woman’s Weekly Home Editor and has worked at Woman’s Weekly for nine years. She has always been a keen crafter from a young age.  After completing an Art Foundation she then went on to study Illustration and Communication. She specialised in the traditional art of bookbinding – going on to write, illustrate and bind her own books. Emily has become the face of Woman’s Weekly Craft; holding demonstrations at numerous trade and craft shows.

Esme Clemo Craft Assistant | Woman's Weekly | Craft | SewingEsme Clemo says: ‘As a child my weekends were spent with my grandma, learning how to sew on her hand crank Singer sewing machine, experimenting with poster paints and picking up my first set of knitting needles. I can even remember the first project we made together, a shoulder bag from a pair of old flowery curtains. In September 2014 I was lucky enough to join Woman’s Weekly as Craft Assistant, turning a lifelong hobby into my dream job.’

Freddie Patmore is the Woman’s WeekFreddie-Patmorely Knitting Assistant. After her mum taught her to knit at the age of 4, Freddie began knitting toys as gifts for her schoolteachers and family and she’s been knitting constantly ever since! Not a day goes by without her picking up her needles or crochet hook. Freddie has gone on to become a professional workshop tutor, pattern designer and author.

Sheila HalliwellSheila Halliwell has run a number of Docrafts workshops for Woman’s Weekly readers here at our HQ but also at Woman’s Weekly Live!. Sheila has been a Docrafts demonstrator for nearly 10 years and is a papercraft expert like no other. She attends nearly 100 craft demonstrations per year and has demonstrated techniques such as die-cutting, embossing, decoupage and stamping, not only in the UK but at high profile trade and consumer shows across the world.

Natalie Warner‘s mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunties were keen knitters, crocheters, dressmakers and embroiderers so needlecraNatalie Warnerfts have been part of Natalie’s life from day one. In 2009 she committed to a full-time career in knit and crochet design and tuition.  She currently teaches at Sew Over It and Fringe in London, and her designs have been featured in Knitting magazine.
