It was an honour to have been asked to judge the cookery classes at the Chevening Horticulture Society Annual Show today.  When I read through the schedule I saw that there was one class where competitors followed a given recipe, so I suggested that Woman’s Weekly “sponsored” that class in that we’d supply one of our tried and trusted recipes and then we’d give some small prizes to the winners.  I chose our Chocolate and Orange Marble Loaf recipe as it’s a little difficult to get the marbeling effect, so I thought it would be a good test for the entrants.

When I arrived, I was very pleased to see that it was one of the classes with the largest number of entries, but it was very difficult to judge because one cake had the best taste, one had the best marbelling effect, and one looked best overall!  However, I eventually made my decision on my top 3, and because there was also another which was so good I thought it should have some recognition, I awarded a “Highly Commended” too.
