We show you how to decorate jam jars, to make them pretty as a picture
If you’ve got a glut of jam jars stashed away somewhere then we have the perfect use for them!
This simple craft project is ideal for clearing out and recycling all your old jars. With just a few materials you can transform them into feature jars, instead of leaving them to collect dust!
We like corresponding the picture to what we’re planning to keep in the jars, so buttons for sewing bits and bobs, cupcakes for birthday candles and love hearts for sweeties, obviously.
If it’s warm enough outside you could do this craft outside as to minimise the fumes from the frosting spray. Also, remember to throughly cover all surfaces you’re working on – you certainly don’t want a frosted dining table, that’s for sure.
Tis is also a great idea to make for people if you’re looking for ways to present gifts. Why not fill the love heart jar with cubes of homemade fudge or chocolates? Cover the lid with a circle of pretty fabric and tie with a ribbon for a rustic way to present gifts – the recipients couldn’t help but love it!
- Jam jars
- Adhesive spray
- Plasti-kote Glass Frosting Spray
1. Take a jar, or a few jars, making sure they are completely clean by washing them out with warm, soapy water.
2. Cut out a shape – eg, a heart, cupcake or button – from paper and attach to the outside of the jar with a very light spray of adhesive.
3. Following the maker’s instructions, apply two or three light coats of glass frosting spray, allowing each coat to dry well before applying the next. Carefully remove the paper shapes to reveal your design.
Now all you have to do is fill your new and improved jars with some of your favourite things!
