These cheery dog brooches will look great pinned to your favourite coat, top or bag. They're quick and simple to cut and stitch...

If you’re a ‘dog person’ then you’re going to love these adorable pooches! Personalise your dog brooch by using your favourite colours if you like, or you could even model the markings and characteristics on your own dog, if you have one.

We love these because they’re soft and tactile, much better to wear than brooches made from metal or other hard materials which often scratch or catch on things, don’t you think?

If you’re looking for a gift for the people who have everything then a personalised, handmade present is ideal. Putting thought and time into something is much more precious than spending lots of money and the lucky recipient will be thrilled to have been made something so sweet to keep from you.

    • Scraps of red and blue felt
    • Paper
    • Pencil
    • Scissors
    • Embroidery thread
    • Stuffing
    • Glue
    • Tiny black beads
    • Ribbon
    • Brooch pin

1. To make one brooch, pin two 10cm squares of red or blue felt together. Using our pictures as a guide, draw a dog shape on paper and cut out as a template. Drawing round this, cut the dog shape from the doubled felt.

2. Blanket-stitch round the edge with contrasting thread, inserting a little stuffing before completing.

3. Cut an ear shape and two spots from contrasting felt. Sew the top edge of the ear to the dogs head, and glue on the spots. Sew on a tiny black bead for the eye, a slightly larger one for the nose, and a ribbon collar. Sew a brooch pin on the back to complete.
