Mix and match the rich colours of the season and layer up for comfort and warmth
Lifestyle Editor Jayne Marsden shows you how to introduce the rich autumn fashion colour palette to your wardrobe.
A simple striped tunic dress in plum, redcurrant and with a lovely flash of burnt orange is easy to wear. The style is perfect if you are an apple shape as the stripes camouflage a tummy brilliantly and it’s a style that works with opaque tights and boots or over trousers.
This vibrant dress doesn’t need any jewellery – the dress is a statement in itself.
To layer colours and textures, Jayne’s picked a deep aubergine faux fur gilet and put it over a cranberry roll-neck with a saffron coloured skirt.
This is especially good if you have a bigger bust as the fine rib polo sits neatly under the gilet and camouflages in a glamorous way. Wear the polo outside the skirt or tucked in if you want to show off a waist.
Layering is very simple – you just need to keep to one rule – the bottom layer needs to be slim fitting. You can’t go wrong if you keep to that.
Jayne looks fabulous in a grey polo-neck with blackcurrant jeans. A higher waisted trouser avoids a muffin top. A wrap is one of the best cover ups of the season. See how the colours team beautifully with the trousers.
Try some big, bold jewellery and finish the look with a statement necklace.
One of our favourite knits is this stunning kimono-style gilet knitted in moss stitch.
